The WxAI Promise: How We Learn AI in Community

At the beginning of every WOMEN x AI (WxAI) event, we say the WxAI Promise together:

I promise to be curious. I promise to share what I know and ask when I don’t. I promise to hand her the mic. And I’m ready to learn AI, in community.

The promise helps us set an intention for the time we are about to spend together. It welcomes new members, explains the culture we are building, and reminds all of us that a strong community depends on participation.

The WxAI Promise sets the intention for how we learn and participate at every WxAI event: stay curious, share what you know, ask when you don’t, and hand her the mic.

It's a reminder to show up ready to learn, contribute, and help create space for others.

I promise to be curious.

Curiosity is where learning begins.

At WOMEN x AI, being curious means asking the question you are worried might be too basic. It means staying open instead of pretending to understand something you do not. It means experimenting with AI, not only reading about what other people are doing with it.

Curiosity also means questioning the hype.

AI is developing quickly, and the conversation around it can move even faster. We want our community to explore what is possible while also asking thoughtful questions about risk, impact, trust, and responsibility.

You are welcome to be excited. You are welcome to be skeptical. Most importantly, you are welcome to ask.

I promise to share what I know and ask when I don’t.

Everyone in the room has something to contribute.

You may have experience with a particular AI tool, industry, role, workflow, or challenge. Sharing what you know could mean answering a question in the chat, recommending a useful resource, describing something you tried, or introducing two members who could help each other.

It also means being honest about what you do not know.

We want WOMEN x AI to be a place where people can ask for help without apologizing first. Admitting that something sits outside your expertise does not weaken the conversation. It makes the conversation more trustworthy.

This part of the promise applies to everyone, no matter where they are in their AI journey. Sometimes you will be the person offering an answer. Sometimes you will be the person asking the question. Often, you will be both.

I promise to hand her the mic.

Sometimes handing her the mic is literal.

It is passing a microphone to a woman or nonbinary person whose perspective needs to be heard. It is making room for someone to ask a question, tell their story, or share their expertise.

It is also much bigger than the microphone in the room.

Handing her the mic can mean recommending her for a panel, citing her work, introducing her to a customer or investor, inviting her into a decision-making space, sponsoring her when she is not present, or making sure she receives credit for her ideas.

It means paying attention to whose voices are being heard and whose are still missing.

At WOMEN x AI, we believe visibility can create opportunity. A microphone can lead to a relationship, a client, an investment, a leadership role, or the confidence to take the next step.

Hand her the mic matters because that is how change happens.

And I’m ready to learn AI, in community.

You can learn a great deal about AI on your own. Community supercharges that learning and makes it more fun.

Learning alongside other people gives you a safer place to ask questions, access to practitioners doing the work, and support as you decide what information is useful and what is simply noise.

It can make a fast-moving field feel less overwhelming.

Community also builds confidence. You see how other people are experimenting, hear what is working in different organizations, and realize that nobody has every answer. You can test an idea, get feedback, and keep moving.

We do not expect everyone at a WOMEN x AI event to have the same background, interests, or goals. In fact the differences in our backgrounds is what makes community so powerful. We do ask everyone to participate in creating an environment where people can learn openly and generously.

A promise we make every time we gather

The WxAI Promise is how we begin our events because it captures how we want people to experience the community. Plus it give us another opportunity to hand the mic to a community member to let them lead the WxAI promise.

We want every person who joins us for a WOMEN x AI Event to feel welcome and empowered.

We want people to ask the questions that are on their minds, share what they have learned, and open doors for others.

We want them to leave with more confidence, stronger relationships, and a clearer sense of what to do next.

Most of all, we want every person to leave ready to take the next step in their AI journey.

That is what it means to learn AI, in community.
